Washington — Founded in 2010, the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) has been helping build African Entrepreneurs with special seminars, financial awards and opportunities. The Foundation is the brainchild of Heirs Holding founder, Tony O. Elumelu, Nigerian Billionaire seeking to make greater opportunities for African businesses.
“In 2016, I applied as to the TEF program,” WMC Lead Contractor, Lela Winston said, “I was more fascinated by what it offered entrepreneurs than the actual prize. I didn’t consider applying again until 2018/2019 award season. I wanted to make great connections and learn more about the entrepreneurial scene on the continent.”
Winston notes that the experience allowed her to connect with small and medium enterprises, have meaningful conversations with like-minded African Entrepreneurs and gain special insight.
“I wouldn’t give up the experience for anything.” Winston continued, “Elumelu has created a real gem in the TEF Entrepreneur Fund. For African entrepreneurs, in the Diaspora or on the continent, its a great way to meet people in your field and truly understand the opportunities opening up in Africa.”
Winston also saw it as a way to give back the second time around. Winston pitched her network which she started in 2015, to connect Diaspora and Africa for business, trade and education.
“The human capital is rich and the opportunities for meaningful connections abound. Thank you Tony Elumelu.”
